Main Street Cottage, Heysham

Heysham Heritage Centre

The Cottage was originally the living quarters for the  occupants of the longhouse, cottage and barn as one building. The Heritage Centre is in the barn section..

The Cottage  is currently  leased  as a short-let providing a unique oppcrtunity to rent a 17th Century cottage and experience a piece of Heysham’s history!

In the refurbishment of 2010-12  the architectural features of the Cottage have been re-instated and conserved, and the facilities provided are of a very high quality.

It consists of:

Ground Floor: Sitting room with flagstone floor. Dining room/kitchen with uneven floor.

First floor: Beamed double bedroom with sloping ceiling. Shower room/WC with double shower cubicle.

Because this is a character cottage, some of the doorways are low.

Heysham Heritage Centre and Cottage are owned by the Heritage Trust for the North West (HTNW: charity no. 508300).

Find out more about what Heysham has to offer on our Visit Heysham page.

The garden of the Cottage as mentioned on the Heritage Centre page is managed by the Eastgate Gardening Club.

In August 2018 they organized an open day and wrote:

As a Heritage Centre volunteer/member/supporter, we would like to innvite you to a special viewing on Saturday 25 August anytime from 11am to 1 pm.
Come and look at progress, as we continue to refurbish the cottage   garden. Learn about recent work we have undertaken as well as our  plans for the future
Enjoy a glass of refreshing nettle cordial whilst you chat with  current volunteers.  We are eager to hear your thoughts about the  garden — and value your ongoing support.
