Re-opening date set for Heysham Heritage Centre

Heysham Heritage Centre is set to re-open at 11am on 4th June following eight months of restoration work on the Lancashire long house building.

The Centre has a new floor which will be used to house a community history archive collection for Heysham. Both the interior and exterior of the centre have also been changed and updated, including restoring the front of the Centre to its original appearance following the discovery of a doorway.

Restoration work will continue in the Cottage and when complete, the Cottage will be made available as a holiday let property for part of each year. More information on this will be available soon.

Why not join us at 11am on 4th June to see the changes we have made?

Heysham Heritage Association volunteers
to create audio heritage tours

Heysham Heritage Association volunteers hope to soon begin creating audio heritage tours for use by visitors to Heysham. The volunteers will be recording route directions, together with detail about places of interest along the route and snippets of interviews recorded with Heysham residents as they recall Heysham past.
The audio tours will bring Heysham’s heritage to life by combining directions, route description and interviews in an audio format.
The project is still in the planning stage at present but it is hoped that the audio heritage walks will be available later this year. Check the News page regularly to find out how things are progressing, or you may wish to sign up to receive our free newsletter.

Preview Day visitors

Heritage Centre Preview / Open Day

“Good presentation. Amazing work being done in the Centre and Cottage”

Over 35 people attended our Heritage Centre Preview event on 20th January.
Attendees saw a presentation and then had the opportunity to visit the Heritage Centre and Cottage to meet the Heritage Trust for the North West building team. The building team gave demonstrations and answered questions about traditional building techniques such as lime plastering, window construction and the work they have done in the Heysham Centre.
Feedback from attendees was excellent.
We look forward to seeing you at our Spring Seminar.
